Yorkshire Evening Post - Is the Jubilee good news for the economy?
|
‘Things are rather frantic’ Ian Clasper is managing director at Beeston-based Northern Flags, which has seen sales of union jacks soar over the last few weeks. “Things are rather frantic at the moment – it’s been a very busy time for us. “We are fielding 15 times the number of enquiries we usually do at this time of year and have produced tens of thousands of union jacks over the last month, which is something we just wouldn’t normally see. “Normally we make flags for petrol stations, hotels and car dealerships but that balance has changed as people have got into the jubilee spirit and also with the Olympics coming up. “We tend to make the large scale, heavier fabric flags rather than the plastic and polyester ones you see in the supermarkets and other shops but the demand has still been enormous. “Everyone seems to want to fly a flag at the moment, whether it’s outside a pub or hotel, council offices or a car showroom. “I think the sun has helped a bit as well to be honest because when you get blue skies everyone suddenly pictures a flag fluttering outside their premises.” Taken from the Yorkshire Evening Post 31.05.12 |
