Standard Modules & Panel Dimensions

1. What are your standard module dimensions for crowd control barrier covers?

We supply barrier covers in modular strips designed for quick, repeatable installation:

  • Standard strip height: 23 cm (most common — suits top rail of Heras-style barriers).
  • Strip widths: Made to match barrier section lengths and provided as continuous runs joined on-site.
  • Panel lengths: Supplied to fit standard barrier sections (commonly 1.2–2.0 m), with seam allowances for overlap.
  • Tolerances: Allowances of ±10–30 mm depending on substrate and finishing; we recommend ordering a template sample for critical fits.

For a perfect fit, provide a photo of the barrier and a simple measurement of the rail height and section length when requesting a quote.

Custom Heights, Shaped Panels & Gates

2. Can you make bespoke heights, curved or shaped covers and gate panels?

Yes. We produce custom sizes and shapes including:

  • Increased strip heights for enhanced branding (e.g., 30 cm, 40 cm or bespoke heights)
  • Curved or tapered panels to match architectural or temporary structures
  • Gate covers with reinforced edges, additional fixing points and cut-outs for hinges or locks
  • Pre-sewn pockets or velcro straps for easy attachment to bespoke frames

Custom shaped covers may require additional finishing time and a small one-off tooling or cutting fee. We will confirm this during quotation.

Multi-panel Graphics & Seam Management

3. How do multi-panel graphics work and how visible are seams?

Large runs are achieved by joining standard strips. Our approach to seams:

  • Seam placement: We position seams to coincide with barrier joins where possible for a cleaner visual.
  • Overlap & stitching: Panels overlap by ~5 cm and are stitched or welded to create continuous visuals.
  • Image alignment: We supply print-ready mock-ups showing seam placement so you can approve alignment before production.

For photographic or high-detail artwork, seams are minimised using tighter joins and careful artwork proofing.

Branding, Messaging & Sponsor Panels

4. What custom branding/layout options are available?
  • Full-bleed edge-to-edge printing for bold, uninterrupted colour.
  • Repeating sponsor panels or alternating branded / informational strips.
  • Double-sided branding for spectator-facing and crowd-facing messaging (block-out fabrics required).
  • Numbering, QR codes and wayfinding overlays for crowd management.
  • Reflective or high-visibility strips for safety zones and night events.

We can also create templated sponsor zones to make on-site brand changes quick and low-cost.

Fixings, Join Types & Attachment Methods

5. What fixing and attachment options do you supply for crowd control barrier covers?
  • Standard: Stainless steel grommets every 40–60 cm with heavy-duty cable ties supplied.
  • Reusable kits: Elasticated bungees or reusable clips for quick install and removal on repeat events.
  • Velcro / Hook & Loop: For temporary or frequent changeover installs.
  • Reinforced pockets: Sewn pockets for tubular rails for a neat, secure fit on bespoke barriers.

Tell us the barrier type and rail diameter if you need pockets or specialist fixings and we’ll include the correct fittings in the quote.

Artwork Templates & Mock-ups (Sizing Guidance)

6. Do you provide artwork templates and pre-production mock-ups?

Yes — we provide downloadable templates and PDF guides to help you place artwork correctly. Templates include:

  • Panel dimensions and safe zones
  • Trim lines and bleed (see Design & Artwork Requirements for full specs)
  • Seam positions and how to handle image transitions

How to Measure Your Barriers

7. What’s the best way to measure crowd control barrier covers?
  1. Measure the top rail height from the ground to the rail centre (this determines strip height).
  2. Measure one full barrier section length (end-to-end) including any connectors.
  3. Note any gates, hinges, or irregular sections and photograph them — send images with your enquiry.
  4. For long runs measure a set of 3–5 consecutive sections to confirm consistency.

If you prefer, we can send a site technician for large or critical-fit installations for an additional charge (advised for complex gate systems).

Need a Bespoke Size or Rapid Sample?

8. Can you produce a prototype or sample prior to full production?

Yes — we offer prototype strips and sample prints (charged depending on material) so you can test fit, colour and finish before committing to a full order. Contact sales at info@northernflags.com or call 0113 205 5189 to request a sample.
